Ingredients

DOUGH

  •  1 egg
  •  35 g white caster sugar
  •  16 g vanilla sugar
  •  8 g orange zest
  •  200 ml milk
  •  50 ml fresh orange juice
  •  10 g instant yeast
  •  600 g flour
  •  4 g salt
  •  45 ml water
  •  45 g margarine

EXTRA

  •  5 ml sunflower oil

SUGAR GLAZE

  •  150 g powdered sugar
  •  30 ml water

Recipe

  1. Crack the egg into a bowl and add white caster sugar and vanilla sugar. Whisk for 4-5 minutes until the mixture becomes fluffy and light yellow.
  2. Incorporate the orange zest, lukewarm milk, orange juice, yeast, flour, and salt into the mixture. Mix thoroughly and knead firmly, then add lukewarm water and continue kneading for another 10-12 minutes.
  3. Add the margarine and knead until the dough is smooth. Grease the bowl with sunflower oil, place the dough inside, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and roll it out into a rectangular sheet, approximately 27×32 cm, with a thickness of 1.5 to 2 cm.
  5. Use a donut cutter (or a pastry ring and a bottle cap) to cut out the donut shapes.
  6. Arrange the donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow them to rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until they double in size.
  7. In a bowl, mix the powdered sugar with water to create a glaze.
  8. Heat a layer of sunflower oil in a frying pan to 175°C (medium-high heat). Fry the donuts until they are golden brown on both sides. Drain them on kitchen paper.
  9. Coat the warm donuts fully in the sugar glaze and let them cool. Enjoy!
